The last time Seattle psychedelic electro-popsters Head Like A Kite played the Yakima Sports Center, they came with a few new songs in tow, including the dark single “No Ordinary Caveman” (video below).
Now HLAK mastermind Dave Einmo (pictured) has a whole new album, “There Is Loud Laughter Everywhere,” which came out last week on electronic-based record label Mush Records.
Still quirky, with plenty of the peculiar squeaks, bubbly blips, fuzz-outs and other curious noises that made HLAK’s debut “Random Portraits of the Home Movie” so sonically interesting, the new disc is also incredibly poppy and danceable.
Hopefully recovered from tonight’s CD release party in Seattle, HLAK — Einmo and Trent Moorman — will show off their new stuff Saturday at the Sports Center, 214 E. Yakima Ave.
And, as always, there’s a dress code: This time the HLAK boys, who’ve been known to wear everything from giant foam cowboy hats to superhero costumes, are giving out a gift bag for the best mask. (Full costumes, for the more adventurous, are also encouraged and I’m told the goodie bag will include the new HLAK album, a poster and an Animals at Night remix CD that has some remixed HLAK songs on it.)
“This might be the most epic HLAK party we’ve had yet,” an excited Einmo notes about the Yakima show. “I hope the floor at Sports Center is strong because this will be a full on dance party. The beams will be shaking. SHAKING!”
The show starts at 9 p.m. Also on the bill are The Animals at Night (sparkly and spacey downtempo electronica) and The Quit (infectious pop). The cover is $5.
And if you think they’re joking about the masks/costumes, check out this MTV2 video:
